Camporeale (Masciddi or Campurriali in Sicilian) is a small agricultural center in the province of Palermo located in the eastern part of the Val di Mazara, straddling the two provinces of Palermo and Trapani, which fought over the fertile territory until 1954, the year of the definitive passage to the administrative district of the Sicilian regional capital.
In the middle of the Belice Valley Camporeale is surrounded by a chain of hills with altitudes over 400 meters and is protected by hills overlooking the plain.
An agricultural landscape of striking beauty is presented to visitors consisting of hillocks, promontories and hills where the vine is the protagonist.
As far as the eye is lost, orderly rows run along the lines of the hills, go up the valleys and turn red in autumn.
In spring the valley blooms alternating the green of the vineyards with the gold of the wheat, the utto dotted with the red of the.
Not only for its scenic beauty but above all for its spontaneous fertility and the ideal climatic conditions to pursue the highest quality, agriculture has been practiced here since time immemorial, and carried out by a population that works with passion and meticulousness.
Today Camporeale is experiencing a new renaissance driven by excellent production and an ideal social fabric where young people have rediscovered the know-how of their grandparents' tradition by bringing innovation and new passion.
A territory that looks to exports, which compares itself with international markets while maintaining the beacon of tradition and quality.
WHERE OUR WINE IS BORN
Camporeale Charm and Poetry
Camporeale is the result of millennia of peoples who have succeeded in cultivating its fertile lands.
It starts from the Sicani in the eighth century BC. while the Romans arrived in 260 BC The Arabs build countless farmhouses and villages. Even today, the Cubici farmhouse and the Kalatrasi castle with the homonymous bridge also known as the Devil's Bridge remain, called this way because it is said that it was built in one night by the devils of the fortresses of Maranfusa.
These are the surroundings. Camporeale itself is newly built, dates back to 1779 by the Marquis of Sambuca. Due to the 1968 Belice earthquake it was rebuilt a little further downstream. Its name means "campus regalis", a field worthy of a king.
Of historical and architectural interest there is the Baglio, two courtyards which are accessed through a large arch, built in 1691, which overlook the church of S. Antonio da Padova and the Palazzo del Principe which today houses the Enoteca and the Library Comunale.
